GUADALAJARA, Mexico (AP) – Colombia begins its World Cup preparations in Mexico ahead of Group K matches against Uzbekistan and Congo.
The team arrived in Guadalajara on Wednesday and held their first training session in the host city on Thursday. The session was open to the media and some local residents.
Columbia, 14th place Preparations for the World Cup began on FIFA’s home soil, with training in California followed by a camp in Guadalajara.
Colombia will play Uzbekistan in Mexico City next Wednesday. The second match will be against Congo in Guadalajara on June 23rd. The third match against Portugal will be held in Miami on June 27th.
Guadalajara and Mexico City both have high altitudes, which will pose a challenge for players.
Colombia’s best performance at the World Cup was in Brazil in 2014, when they reached the quarter-finals. In the 2018 Russia tournament, they were eliminated in the round of 16. Colombia failed to qualify for the 2022 Qatar tournament.
