Manchester United idol Eric Cantona has revealed the biggest secrets from his controversial but glorious days as United star from 1992 to 1997. The 59-year-old former French footballer, now a successful actor, always acknowledged that director Sir Alex Ferguson knew how to channel his untamed, capricious genius.

He may look strong, but he is a poet with a kind heart.

Eric Cantona has attended the Cannes Film Festival three times, thanks to the documentary “Cantona”, the film “Les Matins Merveilleux” and the short “The Sentinel”.

This is the story of my life, the story of a man searching for his identity and another person he helped find himself. It was a challenge that Alex Ferguson accepted.

“I may look tough, but I’m a poet with a kind heart,” he declared after the broadcast of the documentary Cantona.

Eric Cantona: “Ferguson wanted to let me go, but my wife convinced him to keep me”

At the Cannes Film Festival, he revealed that even Alex Ferguson was fed up with his out-of-control personality at Old Trafford and that only the Scottish manager’s late wife Cathy could prevent him from leaving the Red Devils.

Her relationship with Alex Ferguson could have been a movie script. It could have been a love story

“This is the story of my life, the story of a man searching for his own identity, and the story of another person he helped find himself. It was almost a challenge that Alex Ferguson accepted,” said the former footballer. He was released by Olympique Marseille, Bordeaux, Nimes and Montpellier before joining Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.

Alex Ferguson decided to sign Cantona from Leeds in 1992, despite his reputation as a “terrible kid” in French football.

“Guy Roux advised me: “You have to love him, and if you give him that love, he will give you everything back.”

“At one point he tried to let me go, but my wife persuaded him to continue the relationship with me,” confessed a man from Marseille (France).

Alex Ferguson has found a formula to get the best out of Cantona. He did so thanks to advice from Guy Roux, who coached ‘The King’ during his controversial teenage years at Auxerre.

When I arrived in England, there were no French people and very few foreigners. people looked at me with some kind of disdain

“Guy Roux advised me: ‘You have to love him, and if you give him that love, he will give you everything back,'” he revealed.

Eric Cantona recalled, “When I came to England, there were no French people, very few foreigners. People looked at me with a kind of disdain,” and “my relationship with Alex Ferguson could have been a movie script. It could have been a love story.”

Cantona explained that he quit soccer because he couldn’t stand the space for the devil to enter.

In 1997, at just 31 years old, after winning four Premier League titles and two FA Cups with Manchester United, Cantona surprisingly announced his retirement from football. “It lost its luster. I felt it very early on.”

“I couldn’t stand that feeling of emptiness, that space where demons live…I couldn’t stand the feeling of my engine slowing down even though I had lived through as many intense moments as I had as a player,” he said of his retirement.

Eric Cantona never regretted his historic kick against a fan: ‘I wish I had kicked harder’

His footballing career was marked on January 25, 1995, when he delivered a flying kick to Crystal Palace fan Matthew Symonds in the front row at Selhurst Park.

Eric Cantona, wearing a Manchester United shirt, was sent off with a straight red after one of the most famous assaults in football history.

Far from regretting his now-legendary flying kick, Cantona lamented not having hit harder at the Crystal Palace supporters who insulted him throughout the match.

“They banned me from playing for nine months. They wanted me to be an example…I’ve been insulted thousands of times and I’ve never reacted. But sometimes people are fragile,” he said on The United Way.
