DUBLIN (AP) — COACH andy farrell It was confirmed on Friday that he will stay in Ireland for a further four years until the 2031 Rugby World Cup in the United States.
Farrell was originally contracted until the end of the 2027 World Cup in Australia.
The contract extension means he will be in charge of Ireland for 11 years and a further 15 years.
“What I’m most excited about is our path to growth and the quality of our talent and investment,” he said. “We have real confidence in the system we have built across each state and age-appropriate program, and believe that with continued efforts, the best is yet to come.”
Farrell joined Ireland as defense coach in 2016 and replaced Joe Schmidt when he retired after the 2019 World Cup.
Under Farrell, Ireland won two Six Nations, one Grand Slam and four Triple Crowns. Ireland has finished first or second every year since 2022.
2023 World Cup in France and Ireland lost in the quarterfinals 8th win out of 10 tournaments. He has never advanced to the semifinals.
Farrell coached the British and Irish Lions in Australia last year. 2-1 series win.
The 51-year-old is a rugby league great who represented England in league and union.
