DUBAI (AP) – Former Spain international and Barcelona star Andres Iniesta has signed his first coaching deal with UAE second-division club Gulf United.
Iniesta played his final season as a player at Emirates Club FC. Retired in 2024.
A club statement on Monday said he has a coaching license that allows him to play in the second division for Gulf United, but is still in the process of obtaining a professional coaching license.
“I feel like Gulf United FC is the perfect place to start this new chapter,” Iniesta said. “Soccer has given me everything and now I want to give something back through coaching, learning and working every day with young players who have the hunger and talent to go far.”
Gulf United are known for their academy and development of young players.
“I believe in developing footballers in the right way: being patient, having a clear idea of how the game should be played and giving real consideration to each individual. Gulf United shares that philosophy and that’s why I’m here,” Iniesta said. “I want to grow as a coach, gain real-world experience, and get my professional license.”
