Swanson joins the U.S. roster for the first time since October 2024. she recently returned to club teamAfter taking time off for the birth of his daughter in November, he was traded to the Chicago Stars.
Swanson, 28, played 103 games for his national team and scored 38 goals, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win over Brazil in Paris that won the gold medal.
Wilson had returned to the national team April after I took maternity leave to give birth to my daughter last year. She played in 61 games and scored 24 goals for the U.S. national team.
“The front three haven’t been together since the Olympic gold medal game. It’s a long time. We can’t waste every minute,” said U.S. coach Emma Hayes. “We absolutely have to have the best players in every opportunity we get. But the situation is a little different. We have Mal coming back at the end, and certainly she’s out and contributing in Chicago, but it’s really important to get them into an environment where they reconnect with their teammates, similar to Soph’s last camp.”
The United States will play Brazil on June 6th in Sao Paulo and June 9th in Fortaleza.
It’s not often that national teams leave the United States to play friendlies, so playing in Brazil gives young players a chance to experience the daily routine of travel.
Additionally, Brazil will host next year’s Women’s World Cup. The United States will aim to qualify for the tournament at the CONCACAF W Championship in late November.
“This is another moment to see how we deal with all the environmental conditions that come with going to Brazil, whether it’s a different culture, a different training facility, a different hotel, a different experience, fan experience, feeling like an away team, but adapting to the pressure cooker of a top opponent. All of those things are really, really important,” Hayes said.
Coach Hayes has named 26 players to the international camp roster, with 23 players expected to be available for each game.
