SAN DIEGO (AP) — Brian White had two goals in the first half and two assists in the second, and Thomas Muller added three assists to lead the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 4-2 victory over San Diego FC on Saturday night.
White had assists from Muller and Tristan Blackmon to give the current Western Conference leaders a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute.
Vancouver took a 2-0 lead into halftime as White scored his 10th goal of the season with assists from Jeevan Badwal and Kenji Cabrera.
In the 53rd minute, David Vazquez scored his third goal of the season and third of his career to bring San Diego within 2-1.
White and Muller scored rookie Bruno Caicedo’s second goal in the 67th minute for a 3-1 lead after Caicedo came on as a substitute for his eighth appearance four minutes earlier.
Luca Bombino was given a second yellow card five minutes later and was sent off from San Diego for shorthanded.
White and Muller brought on defender Ralph Puriso as netter for the first time in four seasons in the 75th minute, giving them a three-goal advantage. Priso entered the match one minute ago.
Rookie Brian Zambre scored the winning goal for San Diego in the first minute of stoppage time. He scored two goals in his first 132 minutes of play.
Anders Dreyer assisted on two of San Diego’s goals, tying him with Los Angeles FC’s Son Heung-min for the league lead with nine goals.
White recorded his first two assists of the season, while Muller has four assists and four goals in 12 games this season. Muller has scored 11 goals and provided 7 assists in his first 19 league appearances.
Isaac Boehmer saved one hit in his first appearance of the season for Vancouver (10-2-2).
Boehmer replaced Yohei Takaoka, who was suspended after receiving a red card in the last game against the Houston Dynamo, a 1-0 road loss.
CJ dos Santos made seven saves for San Diego (4-6-5) in his second start of the season.
Vancouver improved to 3-1-2 on the road, while San Diego dropped to 3-3-3 at home.
