MONTREAL (AP) — Cole Bassett scored the tying goal in the 77th minute as the Portland Timbers played to a 2-2 tie against the Montreal Impact on Wednesday night.
Bassett’s first shot from long range missed the far post, but he fired his first shot into the back of the net off the rebound.
Portland cut the deficit to one point in the 21st minute when Kevin Kelce redirected Christopher Verde’s cross and scored a goal.
Kelce had two goals and two assists in his third consecutive start as Portland (4-6-2) earned a 6-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City. The 21-year-old’s six-point performance against Kansas City tied the club record, which was last achieved by Sebastian Blanco in 2022.
Montreal (4-7-1)’s home winning streak ended at four.
Daniel Rios took the lead in the 11th inning, and Wiki Carmona gave Montreal a 2-1 lead just before halftime.
Rios turned with the ball at the top of the penalty area and curled a shot into the top corner.
Matty Longstaff’s through ball found Carmona, who crossed the defense and crossed goalkeeper James Pantemis.
