FRISCO, Texas (AP) – Sebastian Berhalter scored two goals and the Vancouver Whitecaps defeated FC Dallas 3-2 on Wednesday night in their first multi-goal game of the season.
The Whitecaps (9 wins, 1 loss, 2 draws) are unbeaten in seven games. Vancouver won 1-1 against the Los Angeles Galaxy and San Jose, but did not win back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Dallas coach Eric Quill was on the field but was sent off in the 87th minute.
Berhalter became the first player in club history to contribute goals in nine of the first 12 games of the season.
Petar Moussa and Logan Farrington each had a goal for Dallas. Moussa has scored 11 goals this season, ranking him second in MLS behind Chicago’s Hugo Kuipers (12 goals) and tied with Miami’s Lionel Messi.
Berhalter took a first-touch shot from just outside the area off a feed from Kenji Cabrera, but it deflected off the outstretched hand of goalkeeper Michael Collodi, bounced off the back post and into the net, tying the score in the 64th minute.
After a one-handed parry by Collodi, Berhalter’s shot from outside the penalty arc bounced off the crossbar to make it 1-1 in the 23rd minute, and an own goal by Dallas’ Osaze Urhohide in the 27th minute gave the Whitecaps a 2-1 lead.
Dallas (5-4-4) was on a winning streak.
For Vancouver, Yohei Takaoka made one save.
Michael Collodi made three saves for Dallas.
Andres Cubas was forced off with an injury in the 87th minute and was replaced by Thomas Müller.
