PARIS (AP) — Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele has won Ligue 1’s Player of the Year award for the second year in a row.
Dembele received the award late on Monday night, making it the 10th time in a row that a PSG player has won the award. Kylian Mbappe won five games in a row before joining Real Madrid.
Alexandre Lacazette, who played for Lyon in 2015, was the last player other than PSG to win the award. The award was not presented during the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season.
Dembélé helped PSG win the league title last season with 21 goals and won the Ballon d’Or, but he has not had much of an impact this season due to injury. He scored 10 goals, but manager Luis Enrique used him more sparingly, starting just nine league games.
Dembele’s performance has perhaps had an even bigger impact in the Champions League, where PSG are aiming for a second successive title after defeating Bayern Munich in the semi-finals. Dembele’s early goal PSG drew 1-1 in the return leg and won 6-5 on aggregate.
PSG will face Premier League leaders Arsenal in the final on May 30th.
