Arne Slott has been in charge of an underwhelming second season as Liverpool manager and knows that ending the campaign with a win won’t change people’s views.
Arne Slott has admitted that “nobody is positive” about Liverpool’s season this season, and a three-win finish will not change that perception.
The Reds entered the season as defending champions and, despite a dip in form, are still hopeful of clinching a Champions League place, which was in doubt until a few weeks ago. They will end the season playing three teams from the top nine, starting with a struggling Chelsea.
Before losing to Manchester United last week, Liverpool had won three games on the bounce and reiterated against the Blues that Aston Villa and Brentford will end the year with six wins from seven.
But their season was seen as underwhelming after a mid-season collapse that saw them drop down the standings and out of title contention, and Slott knows that won’t change in the minds of many.
He said: “I don’t think anyone can be positive about the season, even if we win three and perform well. It’s important to get at least one win over the line and that might be enough.”

“In terms of performance, we are trying to do it in the best possible way. The positive thing is that some players who can be really important for us will be back at the weekend or after the weekend. That will help us. Three wins will not quiet the critics. Therefore, we need to maintain the results and performances for a longer period of time.”
Liverpool’s season was made all the more disappointing considering they had invested over £400m into the title-winning team. Many of their key players, such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, have not improved or struggled with form and fitness.
But Slott believes they deserved more than they got. “Obviously with our Premier League performance, we didn’t get the points we should have,” the Dutchman said. “We haven’t had a very good season in the Premier League, but we’re playing better but we’re not getting the points we should have.”
Despite spending heavily last summer, the slot machine admits it will re-enter the market, but claims sales will be “significantly” as high as 12 months ago. “There will be some changes this summer, but it won’t be as drastic as last summer,” he said.
