IPSWICH, England (AP) — Former England international defender ashley young He announced that he would retire from soccer at the age of 40.
Young played on teams such as manchester united He moved to Inter Milan and spent this season at second-tier Ipswich.
They won the English and Italian league titles, as well as the FA Cup and Europa League. He was part of England’s squad for the 2018 World Cup.
“I’m very proud and lucky to have accomplished everything I have in my career,” Young said. “I don’t sit down and think about this very often while I’m still playing the game, but I’ve been living a dream for the past 23 years.”
During his well-travelled career, Young also played for Watford, two separate stints at Aston Villa and Everton.
He might have his best performance this weekend. Ipswich will secure promotion to the Premier League if they defeat Queens Park Rangers in Saturday’s Championship final match.
