BERLIN (AP) — Germany has postponed announcing its World Cup squad for nine days to give injured players more time to show their strength in light of the final day of the Bundesliga.
Germany national team coach Julian Nagelsmann was scheduled to announce the squad in Frankfurt on May 12th, but this was postponed to May 21st on Tuesday.
The team gathering was also postponed by two days to May 27th.
The final round of the Bundesliga is on May 16th. german cup final The match between Bayern Munich and Stuttgart, in which many German players are likely to be called up, will take place on May 23rd.
Preparations for the World Cup were due to begin in the Bavarian resort of Herzogenaurach on May 25, but Nagelsmann is said to want to give his Bayern and Stuttgart players a long rest before then.
If Bayern reaches the Champions League final on May 30, the team’s German players will join their international colleagues only afterwards.
Germany is scheduled to play Finland in a World Cup prelude in Mainz on May 31st, then play the USA in Chicago on June 6th.
Four-time champions Germany will play against Ivory Coast, Ecuador, and newcomer Curacao Group E at the World Cup.
