NEWCASTLE, England (AP) — Newcastle full-back Tino Libramento could miss the rest of the season with a thigh injury, putting his retention in jeopardy. England team preparing for the World Cup.
Libramento has been a regular (when healthy) in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad this season and is highly regarded for his ability to play at both right-back and left-back.
He suffered what Newcastle manager Eddie Howe described as a “terrible injury” on Friday during last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth and has already undergone initial tests.
“He will be tested again over the weekend to determine the full extent of the time-out,” Howe said. “We’ll wait and see if he plays again this season.”
The Premier League ends on May 24th and England’s final World Cup squad must be submitted by May 30th.
Chelsea’s Reece James, who is currently injured, is thought to be England’s first choice for the right-back position. Coach Tuchel was overlooked. Real Madrid’s Trent Alexander-Arnold. Burnley’s Kyle Walker retired from international football in March.
This leaves the other options for the right-back position, of course, being centre-backs Jarrell Quansah and Ezri Konsa, as well as Ben White, who is not a regular starter for Arsenal.
The World Cup begins on June 11th and will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
