Leicester City star Hamza Chaudhry aired his frustration with Portsmouth fans during a crucial Championship relegation match. The Foxes went into the game knowing they needed a win to have any hope of preventing relegation for the second time in two seasons.
However, Gary Rowett’s side found themselves trailing 1-0 after Ivane Boite put Portsmouth ahead in the 63rd minute.
Rowett headed to the substitute bench to get back into the game. Choudhury was replaced by Jordan James, who returned from injury.
Chaudhry appeared to be involved in an altercation with the home fans as he was being sent off the pitch. Apparently he didn’t like what certain fans said.
When the referee arrived, he appeared to gesture towards the referee and was shown a yellow card. Chaudhry then shoved the Leicester coach and continued to scream at the crowd while sitting on the bench.
Leicester may have felt frustrated that they should have been awarded a penalty earlier in the game. The decisive goal also appeared to have come from the scorer’s hands, but as VAR was not used in the Championship, both decisions were valid.
Despite needing a goal, Leicester could not find an answer for their opener and were effectively relegated to League One, 10 years after winning the Premier League. The defeat leaves them five points clear of safety, but 21st-placed West Brom still have a game in hand.
The victory moves Portsmouth into 18th place, 10 points behind Leicester in 23rd place.
