MUNICH (AP) – Bayern Munich’s rising star Lennart Karl will miss the Champions League second leg against Real Madrid with a right hamstring injury.
Bayern announced on Friday that 18-year-old Karl, who is having a breakthrough season with Bayern’s powerful team, will be sidelined for the time being due to a muscle tear in the back of his right thigh.
The club did not provide further details.
Karl will miss the Bundesliga match in St. Pauli on Saturday and the visit of Real Madrid for the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday. Bayern won the first leg 2-1 in Madrid on Tuesday.
Bayern’s participation in the Bundesliga game against Stuttgart on April 19 and the German Cup semi-final against Bayer Leverkusen three days later is doubtful, but German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann plans to monitor Karl’s fitness ahead of the World Cup, after making his debut in Germany last month.
Karl has scored five goals in the Bundesliga this season, added another five, and has four goals and two assists in the Champions League.
