Jets co-owners have made large investments in Premier League teams

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson has finalized his contract to acquire Major Premier League clubs and has marked an entry into European football. He tried to achieve that dream when he submitted a bid for Chelsea in 2022 but failed. Well, after that year’s frustrating dream, the target is placed again in London.

Woody Johnson, 78, is the heir to Johnson & Johnson’s drug empire and has owned the New York Jets since 2000. A prominent figure in sports, business and politics, Johnson served as the United States ambassador to the UK. His family’s company is valued at around $9.1 billion, making it one of the most influential in the country.

The London-based club, which is scheduled to compete in international tournaments this season, reportedly sold 43% of its ownership for a value of between $220 million and $260 million. The deal illustrates the growth trends of American investors in European football.

The English club was targeted by Jets owner Woody Johnson.

Crystal Palace, commonly known as the “Eagles,” has a new majority shareholder. Following a historic season when the club lifted its first ever FA Cup title and secured Europa League qualification for the first time in its 164-year history, the team has attracted the attention of major investors. Among them is Woody Johnson, owner of the New York Jets.

The South London Club confirmed the news through an official statement on its website. “The Crystal Palace Football Club can confirm that “Woody” Robert Wood Johnson, an American businessman and co-owner of the New York Jets, has signed a legally binding contract to purchase Eagle Football Holdings at the club.”

They also added, “While approval from the Premier League and Women’s Super League is pending, we are not supposed to issues and look forward to welcoming Woody as a club partner and director.”

It is worth noting that Johnson previously acquired a 43% stake that John Tector previously held. He has been involved with the club for the past four years as both a partner and director.

New owners can secure a spot in the Europa League.

Crystal Palace fans sigh with the news of the new ownership of the club. After they entered the Europa League tournament, questions arose over the ownership rules for the UEFA Multi Club.

This also qualifies for international competition at the Olympic Lyon, and formed part of a group managed by John Text, the last owner of Crystal Palace. This encouraged speculation that one of the two clubs could ban participation in the honorable competition.

However, with Woody Johnson’s arrival, the Eagles are poised for their long-awaited European debut, but a final decision on UEFA’s participation is expected by the end of the month.
