LIVERPOOL, England (AP) – Galatasaray forward Noah Lang suffered a freak injury to his hand when he got his thumb caught in a billboard during his team’s 4-0 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk said Lang was taken to hospital with deep wounds and may require surgery.
The Dutch international was seen bleeding from his injury and writhing in pain near Liverpool’s goal, and was comforted by Liverpool players before being taken away on a stretcher.
“He’s in the hospital now. He has a serious problem with his finger,” Bourque said. “Very quickly, they got him there. A decision will be made here if surgery is needed right away.”
In the 75th minute, Lang was attempting to ask Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones for the ball, but he stumbled into the Anfield stands. He seemed to have stuck his thumb between two boxes and immediately clenched his hand in pain.
Galatasaray’s medical team came to treat Lang as play was stopped and he was visibly in discomfort.
Liverpool won 4-1 on aggregate and advanced to the quarter-finals.
