NEW YORK (AP) — National Women’s Soccer League I’m coming to New York City.
Gotham FC will host the Washington Spirit at Citi Field on July 15th in a game known as the Queen’s Classic. This will be the first time an NWSL match will be held in the city.
Both clubs aim to break attendance records for women’s sporting events in New York City. More than 28,000 fans gathered for the 2023 US Open women’s singles final.
The game, which will be played at the home of baseball’s New York Mets, will be a rematch of last season’s NWSL Championship Game. Gotham defeated Spirit 1-0 About Rose Lovell’s title-winning goal.
The Queen’s Classic is scheduled to be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, four days before the Men’s World Cup final.
“This summer will be a transformational year for soccer in our region,” Ryan Dillon, Gotham’s chief business officer, said in a statement Tuesday. “As the world’s attention focuses on New York, we are truly excited to put women’s sports and world-class athletes at the heart of Gotham FC.” “It’s going to be a summer that makes football history, and this event ensures we’re a part of it.”
