SAO PAULO (AP) — Brazilian soccer club Corinthians on Friday completed the signing of former England international and Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard.
Lingard joined on a free transfer from South Korean side FC Seoul and has been playing since 2024.
“From (England) to Favela,” Corinthians posted on Instagram, along with a photo of the 33-year-old player wearing the club’s number 77 jersey.
Lingard started his career at Manchester United, making 232 appearances and scoring 35 goals for the Red Devils.
He also had short spells at Brighton, Leicester, West Ham, Derby and Nottingham Forest.
“My first impression is that I’m very happy. I can’t wait to get going,” Lingard said. “It’s a magical feeling. I’ve only seen[Corinthians fans]online, but it’s great to be there in person.”
Lingard played 67 games for FC Seoul, scoring 19 goals. He made 32 appearances for England and scored six goals.
Corinthians officials are hopeful that he will be able to play in Wednesday’s home match against Coritiba in the Brazilian league.
Lingard will reunite with former United colleague Memphis Depay at Corinthians. The Dutch forward has been playing for the Sao Paulo-based club since 2024.
Corinthians are the defending champions of the Brazilian Cup and are also contenders for this year’s Copa Libertadores title.
In the Brazilian league, they have seven points from four games and are in third place, three behind joint leaders Palmeiras and São Paulo.
