PISA, Italy (AP) – It was an unfortunate night for teams facing relegation in Serie A on Monday as Fiorentina lost 3-0 to Udinese and Pisa lost 1-0 to Bologna.
In Udine, the home side took the lead in the 10th minute when Cristian Kabasele nodded in Nicolo Zaniolo’s corner kick.
Udinese’s top scorer Kelman Davies scored from the penalty spot in the second half to make it 2-0.
Adam Buksa then added a third goal in stoppage time, decisively halting Fiorentina’s recent resurgence and ending their hopes for their first three consecutive wins of the season.
They finished fifth in the league, but were tied with Cremonese and Lecce on points, making them third in the relegation zone.
Pisa, one of the two teams below them, lost at home to Bologna, leaving them level with Verona at the bottom of the table.
Pisa had three shots on target while Bologna only had one, but it was Jens Odgor’s strike in the 90th minute that decided the match.
The Danish forward smashed the ball into the back of the net from around 25 meters out, breaking the hearts of the home fans and ensuring Pisa were still chasing their second win in the league.
As a result, they are now level on points with bottom club Verona. With 11 league games remaining, both sides are on the hook for nine points.
With this victory, Bologna have won their third consecutive victory and have moved past Sassuolo into 9th place. They have not lost a league match at home to Pisa since February 1985.
