BERLIN (AP) — Harry Kane scored twice but conceded a penalty as Bayern Munich extended its lead in the Bundesliga with a 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
Borussia Dortmund were unable to maintain the pace as they trailed Leipzig 2-2 towards the end of the game. Fabio Silva’s stoppage-time goal earned Dortmund a point and they will face Bayern at home in Der Klassiker next Saturday.
But Bayern’s win means Dortmund have dropped eight points from the defending champions, meaning Vincent Kompany’s side will need to pull off an unexpected collapse in the final 11 to prevent Bayern’s mighty side from celebrating again. Bayern have won 12 of the past 13 titles since Dortmund won back-to-back titles in 2012.
Bavaria’s rescue
Against Frankfurt, Bayern looked to be on a roll when Aleksandar Pavlovic scored an early goal and Kane scored his league-leading 27th and 28th goals of the season, one in each half.
The England star is used to taking penalties, but he conceded one goal for a foul on Oskar Hejlund with about 15 minutes left on the clock.
In the 77th minute, Jonathan Burkard scored a goal, and in the 86th minute, Arnaud Karimendo took advantage of mistakes by Joshua Kimmich and Kim Min-jae to create a tense finale.
Kane, who was honored before kick-off by scoring his 500th goal for club and country, said: “Two mistakes in the final stages made the game more tense than it needed to be.” “At the end of the day, we’re playing against a really good team. The three points were the most important thing today.”
Bayern are currently on a week’s break, with Dortmund traveling to Bergamo in Italy for the second leg of the Champions League play-off against Atalanta on Wednesday. Dortmund lead 2-0 from the first leg.
“I can enjoy (the Bundesliga) until next week’s game,” Kane said. “Yes, we can be happy.”
alfonso davis departed injured Jamal Musiala made his first league start for Bayern this season early in the second half.
Union celebrates first win of 2026
Rani Khedira’s first-half lob was enough for Union Berlin to surprise Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 and end the visitors’ seven-match unbeaten run in all competitions. It was Union’s first win since back-to-back wins over Cologne and Leipzig in December.
Additionally, Augsburg defeated Wolfsburg 3-2, while Cologne held strong Hoffenheim to a 2-2 draw. Ragnar Ace scored Cologne’s favorite goal of the season with a brilliant bicycle kick.
