TA new chapter has been added to the biggest soccer debate of the century over who is the best player. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are definitely part of the debate, with thousands of fans struggling to decide which of the two is better. Opinions vary, but a former teammate of the Portuguese player has already given an answer.
Manchester United star Amad Diallo played alongside Al Nasr’s captain but did not choose him as player of the match.
Messi, Rooney and Diallo’s choice
Amad and Cristiano did not play a competitive match together at Manchester United due to a tactical decision and a brief departure to Rangers in Scotland, but they did share a dressing room and some training sessions during the Portuguese star’s second spell at the club. However, when Diallo returned, CR7 had already released his contract.
Still, Diallo continues his journey at United after signing a contract extension until June 2030 in January last year. Now, on a recent episode of Inside Carrington on the club’s official channel, Amad had to choose between his on-pitch heroes and despite repeating his admiration for Ronaldo, he chose the Portuguese star’s eternal rival.

Diallo, who has scored two goals and provided two assists in 20 Premier League appearances this season, also mentioned Wayne Rooney as the club legend he would most like to play with.
He added: “My absolute favorite player at United was Rooney. If you ask me which player in United’s history I’d like to play with, I’d say Rooney because he’s a player I really, really love.”
However, this choice does not mean that Amado does not have a good relationship with or admires Cristiano, but rather reflects personal preferences and choices. Even Rooney himself had to clarify that he didn’t “hate” CR7 for choosing Lionel over him.
“People think I hate him (Cristiano Ronaldo). I love him. I think he’s an absolute genius and what he’s doing is incredible…People realize how close he and I were. I don’t think so. I think just because I say I think Messi is better than Ronaldo, people think I don’t like Cristiano,” he declared on Rio Ferdinand Presents last September.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are preparing to face Everton in the Premier League at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday 23rd February.
