BREMEN, Germany (AP) — Werder Bremen has hired Daniel Tiune as its replacement coach. Horst SteffenHe was sacked at the weekend after going 10 games without a win in the Bundesliga.
Bremen announced on Wednesday that Tiune, who is the first black German manager to take up a top-division job, will take over with immediate effect.
Bremen’s sporting director Clemens Fritz said: “We had very good discussions with Daniel. His philosophy on football, his personality and his approach to the current sporting situation were decisive factors in our decision.” “We are confident that we can achieve a turnaround with him.”
Bremen have won just four of their 20 league games so far this season and sit 15th in the 18-team division. The team was eliminated in the first round of the German Cup.
Tiune, 51, most recently coached Fortuna Düsseldorf. Previously, he was head coach at Hamburger SV and VfL Osnabrück.
