CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) – U.S. manager Mauricio Pochettino dismissed criticism from U.S. winger Tim Weah about World Cup ticket prices.
FIFA charges list price of up to $8,680 per ticket Parking costs up to $175 for the tournament, which will be held from June 11 to July 19 in the U.S., Mexico and Canada.
“It’s too expensive,” Weir was quoted as saying in France’s Le Dauphiné newspaper this month. “I’m a little disappointed with the ticket prices. A lot of real fans are going to miss the game.”
“First of all, I think the players need to talk on the pitch where they’re playing football, not outside,” Pochettino said Thursday during a Zoom news conference from Coral Gables, Florida. “It’s not his duty to evaluate ticket prices. And it’s my job. My job is to prepare the team, the U.S. Men’s National Team, to perform at its best. We’re not politicians. We’re sports people, and we’re the only ones who can talk about our work, and if FIFA does something or makes some decisions If so, they know why and I think they have a responsibility to explain why. But it’s not for us to give our opinion. Our responsibility is to perform on the pitch, play and then perform. “He may be able to give his opinion because he is the head of the federation, but I am the head coach of the federation. ”
The United States will play friendlies against Belgium (March 28), Portugal (March 31), Senegal (May 31), and Germany (June 6), followed by the World Cup opener against Paraguay on June 12 in Inglewood, California.
