West Ham’s bid to escape the Premier League’s relegation zone increased with a 3-1 win over Sunderland on Saturday.
It was West Ham’s second win in a row, and Crisencio Somerville’s header, Jarrod Bowen’s penalty and Matheus Fernandes’ long-range strike gave them a three-goal lead by the 43rd minute.
Brian Brobbey scored for Sunderland in the second half.
West Ham, who won 2-1 at Tottenham last weekend for their first win in the competition since early November, remain in the bottom three but are now just two points behind Nottingham Forest in fourth-last place. Forrest visited Brentford on Sunday.
Second-placed Manchester City host Wolverhampton in the second half of Saturday’s game. Erling Haaland starts as a substitute Liverpool then visited Bournemouth.
