Kate Scott, along with Jamie Carragher on CBS Sports Golazo, commented on the situation that affected two former Liverpool team-mates, Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa (a Red player from 2004 to 2009).
Arbeloa, who played for Liverpool from 2007 to 2009, replaced Xabi Alonso as Real Madrid’s first-team manager.
Arbeloa wasn’t a great player, but he was a good player…and he started to think he was a great player.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has recalled a time when he and Micah Richards – a former Manchester City player who has admitted to suffering a sex injury – “needed to keep a clean sheet to ensure our best defensive record of the season”.
Carragher: “Arbeloa was attacking too much and I just wanted him to protect. That was his job.”
The former England international said: “Arbeloa wasn’t a great player, but he was a good player… and he started to think he was a great player.”
“So I needed to get him back on the ground. He was attacking too much and I just wanted him to protect. That was his job. Our goal was to keep a clean sheet,” he explained.
“We beat West Bromwich 2-0 and I think Pepe Reina won the Golden Globe,” Carragher said.
Pepe Reina won the Premier League Golden Glove Award in three consecutive seasons with Liverpool: 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08.
