BOURNEMOUTH, England (AP) – Premier League side Bournemouth signed Hungarian midfielder Alex Toth from Ferencvaros on Tuesday for a reported $14 million.
Toth, 20, has signed a five-and-a-half year contract.
“When I first found out that AFC Bournemouth were interested in me, I was excited and happy because this is a good club in the Premier League, the best league in the world, the strongest league,” he said.
Toth has won nine caps for Hungary and won the national title with Ferencvaros last season.
Bournemouth have gained a reputation in recent years for identifying and developing players before selling them for profit.
Bournemouth will be hoping to discover another talent in Toss, with Antoine Semenho, Dean Huyssen and Milos Kerkes all making big-money moves to Europe’s top teams in the past 12 months.
“He comes from a club that is used to competing at the highest level in Hungary, while also being active in Europe, so we are excited about what he will bring to Bournemouth,” said Tiago Pinto, head of football operations.
