YAOUNDE, Cameroon (AP) – Cameroon Football Federation president Samuel Eto’o has been suspended for four games for alleged misconduct in his team’s loss to Morocco in the African Cup of Nations.
The federation, known as FECAFOOT, on Wednesday took note of the African Football Confederation’s disciplinary committee’s decision to suspend the president with a $20,000 fine, but said it “lacks clear justification”.
“FECAFOOT further notes that the expedited procedure that led to this decision raises serious concerns regarding the fundamental requirements of a fair trial,” the federation said.
CAF said so on Monday. Investigate a match incident during the quarterfinals between Cameroon and Morocco, Algeria and Nigeria.
CAF did not mention the specific events of the Morocco-Cameroon match, but the only widely known outlier was Eto’o’s behavior, during which he made angry gestures towards Moroccan opponent Fawzi Lekujar, with CAF president Patrice Motsepe sitting nearby.
“FECAFOOT reaffirms its unwavering support for the President and its determination to uphold the principles governing reliable disciplinary justice,” the federation said.
