Eindhoven, Netherlands (AP) — U.S. Rep. Ricardo Pepi He fractured his right arm in the match against PSV Eindhoven and will undergo surgery and is expected to be out for two months.
The recovery schedule should give Pepi enough time to get back on track and secure a spot on the U.S. team. home world cup.
Pepi, 23, was injured in a fall after scoring in the first half of Saturday’s 5-1 Dutch league win over Excelsior.
PSV manager Peter Bosz said: “It didn’t look good right away and in times like this you want to turn a blind eye.” “Last January, Ricciardo was already out with a knee injury. Now it won’t last that long, but unfortunately we lost him again. Pepi was in good form, had a strong training camp and was back all the way. … This is a huge shame because all the signs were green that he would be good in the second half of the season.”
Pepi played in 34 games for the U.S. national team, recording 13 goals and three assists.
The U.S. will face Paraguay, Australia and a yet-to-be-determined team in the qualifying playoffs in the group stage of the World Cup, also co-hosted by Canada and Mexico, from June 11 to July 19.
Pepi was surprisingly left out of the U.S. squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
