PARIS (AP) — Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe The Spanish club announced on Wednesday that he had injured his left knee.
Madrid announced in a short statement that the French superstar had been diagnosed with a sprain, but did not give a recovery timeline.
French sports daily L’Equipe reported, without citing sources, that Mbappé would be sidelined for at least three weeks.
L’Equipe added that Mbappé has been suffering for several weeks with a problem with the lateral ligament in his knee, and an MRI scan carried out on Wednesday morning revealed a lesion that requires treatment and rest.
Striker is in great shape. Earlier this month, Mbappe scored his 59th goal for Madrid in 2025, equaling Cristiano Ronaldo’s club record for most in a single season.
The former Paris Saint-Germain player, who joined Madrid in the summer of 2024, has scored 29 goals for Madrid this season, including a league-leading 18.
Mbappe featured in Africa Cup of Nations hosts Morocco’s match against Mali on Friday and Cameroon’s match against Ivory Coast on Sunday.
Madrid’s next match is on Sunday against Real Betis in La Liga.
