DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his determination to score 1,000 goals by the end of his career.
And the 40-year-old Portuguese superstar will definitely get there.
“Barring injuries, I’m sure we’ll reach that number,” Ronaldo said late on Sunday at Dubai’s Globe Soccer Awards, where he was named Middle East’s best player.
Ronaldo scored twice for Al Nasr in the Saudi Professional League on Saturday, taking his total to 956 goals. His record includes the men’s international record. 143 goals for PortugalRonaldo plans to take this to next year’s World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Ronaldo, a five-time World Player of the Year, will be 41 years old by the time the World Cup begins.
“I’m still very motivated to keep going,” the former Real Madrid, Manchester United and Juventus striker said on stage after receiving the award. “It doesn’t matter where I play, whether it’s in the Middle East or Europe. I’ve always enjoyed playing football, winning trophies and scoring goals and I want to continue.
“You know what my goals are. I want to win more trophies and reach the numbers you know.”
The World Cup is one of the few trophies missing from Ronaldo’s collection. In 2016, he won the European Championship with Portugal.
