SAO PAULO (AP) – Neymar has undergone minor surgery on his left knee, his club Santos announced Monday.
Neymar, 33, has previously said he wants to heal from the pain that has caused him to miss several games this year. The arthroscopy was performed by Rodrigo Lasmar, who is also active on the Brazilian national team. The procedure was minimally invasive and treated the problem inside the joint.
At a music event in Sao Paulo last weekend, the striker said he still hopes to play in the World Cup and score in the final. Brazil national team coach Carlo Ancelotti, who took over in May, has not yet named Neymar.
“We are going to do the impossible: bring this cup to Brazil,” Neymar said. “When July comes, please remind us: Hello Ancelotti, help us!”
