LONDON (AP) – Alexander Isak left the field injured in Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League win over Tottenham just 11 minutes after coming on as a substitute at halftime due to a left ankle injury sustained during Liverpool’s scoring.
English football’s record goal was scored with his left foot in the 56th minute to give Liverpool a 1-0 lead, before Micky van de Ven slipped in and fired a shot that connected with the Sweden striker’s ankle.
Isak did not celebrate the goal and was treated and then carried off the field by Liverpool medical staff.
Liverpool manager Arne Slott said it was too early to judge the severity of the injury.
“Let’s hope he comes back to us soon,” Slott said. “It’s hard to tell you right now.”
Van de Ven was not penalized for the foul. Tottenham were already down to 10 men after Xavi Simons was shown a red card for a stud-up tackle on fellow Dutch international Virgil van Dijk in the 33rd minute, but Cristian Romero was sent off in stoppage time and the game ended with nine men.
