PORTO, Portugal (AP) – Veteran Brazilian defender Thiago Silva will join Portuguese league leaders Porto until the end of the season.
He announced his transfer on Porto’s X account on Saturday, just days after signing. Brazilian club Fluminense It was canceled six months early.
“I’m very motivated,” he said in a subtitled video. “We would be happy to assist you in the best way possible.”
Porto said. in a statement He joined until the end of the season with an option for another season and said there was no transfer fee.
Thiago Silva, 41, helped Fluminense reach the semi-finals of the Club World Cup in July.
He has 113 caps for Brazil and has been included in the squad for the last four World Cups. He reportedly hopes to be recalled before next summer’s tournament.
Thiago Silva briefly played for Porto in the 2004-05 season, but only in the second division.
He spent an initial period at Fluminense, then went on to develop a reputation as one of the best defenders in European football with AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea. He won the Champions League with the London-based club in 2021.
