BOURNEMOUTH, England (AP) – Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola announced Friday that U.S. international Tyler Adams has torn his medial collateral ligament and will be out for up to three months.
Adams suffered the injury in the opening minutes of Monday’s Premier League game against Manchester United.
“Tyler tore his ACL, so he’s definitely going to be out for a while,” Iraola said. “Based on our experience with MCL injuries, it usually lasts about two to three months.
“This is a big blow because he was an important player for us. When we saw the mechanism of the injury and the act itself, we immediately felt it could be something serious.”
Adams’ injury is also a potential blow to the U.S. team heading into next year’s World Cup. Adams has been sidelined with injuries in recent seasons and underwent back surgery last year. But he has been an almost constant presence for Bournemouth this season.
