HARRISON, N.J. (AP) — American winger Cade Cowell returned to Major League Soccer Wednesday on a one-year loan from Chivas Guadalajara to the New York Red Bulls.
Red Bulls say they have the option to buy out Cowell’s rights, 22, after his loan ends. They sent San Jose $50,000 in 2026 general allocation money for Cowell’s MLS discovery priority.
Cowell made his debut with the U.S. national team in 2021 and has played in 11 international games, scoring one goal in the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup against Trinidad and Tobago. He holds both US and Mexican nationality.
Cowell spent time with the Earthquakes from 2019 to 2023, appearing in 104 MLS regular season games and scoring 10 goals. Signed with Seabass in January 2024.
He scored 12 goals in his two years with Chivas, including eight in Liga MX, three in the CONCACAF Champions League and one in the League Cup.
