MILAN (AP) — Teenage defender Davide Baltessagi scored his first first-team goal but was unable to prevent AC Milan from drawing 2-2 at home to Sassuolo in Serie A on Sunday.
The result left Milan just one point ahead of Napoli, who will then play Udinese. Inter Milan could also move ahead of their city rivals if they win their next game against Genoa.
Sassuolo had won only one of their previous three games, but took the lead in the 13th minute against San Siro. The visitors won the ball back from a throw-in by Milan’s defense, and Andrea Pinamonti released the ball to the onrushing Ismael Kone, who broke into the area and lofted the ball over Mike Maignan.
Milan equalized in the 34th minute when Ruben Loftus-Cheek rolled the ball into the area and Baltessaghi fired home from close range.
Barthesagi, 19, doubled his tally just after half-time when he ran in to a clever pass from Christopher Nkunku and fired a shot inside the near post.
Milan had goals from Christian Pulisic and Loftus-Cheek canceled out, but Sassuolo equalized in the 77th minute through substitute Arman Lauriente off an assist from Pinamonti.
Lauriente, who came on as a substitute and changed the course of the match, almost scored the winning goal in the 88th minute with a run from his own half, but his shot hit the left post.
