BERLIN (AP) — Union Berlin defeated powerhouse Red Bull Leipzig 3-1 in the Bundesliga on Monday after consecutive goals early in the second half.
Oliver Burke put Berlin ahead in the 57th minute with his first goal in nine games. However, Tydiam Gomis, who came on for Jannik Habeler just a minute before the break, equalized for Leipzig.
The pendulum almost immediately swung back in Berlin’s direction when Christopher Trimmell found himself unmarked in Leipzig’s box and crossed for Ilyas Ansar on his way home.
Tim Skulk then scored his third goal in stoppage time, ensuring all three points.
It was Berlin’s first win after losing three consecutive league and cup matches, moving them up four places to eighth place.
They have not lost a Friday night Bundesliga game since their first game in 2019 and have not lost in 11 games in a row.
For second-placed Leipzig, the loss meant they missed a chance to close the eight-point gap with league leaders Bayern Munich.
Borussia Dortmund, who are one point behind, will drop to third place if they win against Freiburg on Sunday.
