“There are comprehensive discussions going on about potential solutions at league level. The reality is that our current salary cap structure is one that was built for a different era in women’s football. This is a global sport and we believe that it will continue to grow as the sport continues to grow globally. “With international clubs such as Chelsea and Arsenal increasing their investment, there will need to be a mechanism in place that allows NWSL clubs to compete for and retain domestic players as well as overseas players,” Carter said. “I believe we need to start getting creative because it’s bigger than just one team. It’s bigger than just one player. It’s up to the league’s ability to keep the best players in this league as we continue to grow.”
