LONDON (AP) — It’s life-sized. world cup soccer trophy — Made with 2,842 LEGO bricks.
Lego on Wednesday announced a partnership with FIFA to launch the classic Danish toy brand’s first World Cup series next year.
The Lego version of the trophy, first unveiled at the 1974 World Cup, is exactly the same, measuring 36.8 centimeters (14 1/2 inches) tall.
However, the Lego brick trophy will now be made of plastic rather than 18-carat solid gold and green malachite, making it easier to lift than the original’s 6.175 kilograms (13.6 pounds).
It will be released in March for $200 and will include “a hidden scene that can be opened via a pull-out slip in the top globe,” Lego said in a statement.
FIFA keeps the original trophy in Zurich.
The first 48-team Men’s World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, will begin on June 11th.
