LONDON (AP) – Mohamed Salah has been left out of Liverpool’s starting lineup for Sunday’s game against West Ham in a surprise decision by manager Arne Slott.
Club great Salah helped Liverpool win their 20th English league title last season, equaling their record as top scorer. However, the Egyptian international has struggled to improve his form this term as the Merseyside club’s title defense has collapsed.
Slott named a forward line of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Kodi Gakpo for the match at the London Stadium, with Salah being his substitute.
Liverpool entered the match with a record of nine losses in 12 competitive games. They have lost six of their last seven league games.
A decline in form has been a hallmark of Salah’s season, as he has failed to score in his last four games and has only scored four goals in the league all season.
