Joshua Zirkzee scored his first Premier League goal in almost a year as Manchester United came from behind to win 2-1 at Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The Dutch forward had not scored in England’s top flight since scoring a double against Everton on December 1 last year. But Jean-Philippe Mateta put Palace ahead from the penalty spot in the first half, before finishing the drought with a stunning 54th-minute strike to level the game at Selhurst Park.
Mason Mount’s winning goal nine minutes later saw United end Palace’s unbeaten home run run in the league after 12 games.
Zirkzee showed a moment of individual brilliance as he collected the ball inside the box, turned and slotted home from an angle to pull United back into the game. It was his eighth goal for United since joining from Bologna last year, and his first of the season.
He was named in United’s starting XI after injuries to forwards Benjamin Sesco and Matheus Cunha and produced one of the best moments of his time at the club.
Mount scored the decisive goal following a free kick with a low shot from the edge of the area following Bruno Fernandes’ sending off.
Mateta had given Palace the lead with two penalties in the 36th.
