LIMA, Peru (AP) – Former Juventus defender Danilo da Silva scored a second-half goal to help Flamengo beat Palmeiras 1-0 in the Copa Libertadores final on Saturday.
Da Silva, who also spent time in Europe with Real Madrid and Manchester City, headed home in the 67th minute.
Flamengo won the Copa Libertadores for the fourth time, and the first since 2022. He also won in 1981 and 2019.
Brazil has won the Copa 25 times, joining Argentina as the country with the most wins in the tournament.
Flamengo earned $24 million and qualified for the 2029 Club World Cup. He will also play in the Recopa match against Lanus, who won the Copa Sudamericana last Saturday. The runner-up will receive $7 million.
The Brazilian team has won the Copa Libertadores seven years in a row. Argentina’s River Plate defeated Boca Juniors in 2018, becoming the last team outside Brazil to win all the games.
