Umidfielder Tyler Adams scored one of the best goals in the Premier League this season against Bournemouth on Saturday, pummeling the goalkeeper from nearly 50 yards (meters).
In the 15th minute of the game at Sunderland, Adams picked up a loose ball in his own half, crossed the halfway line and fired a shot from the edge of the center circle. The ball flew over goalkeeper Robin Rufus, scrambled backwards and into the net before being sucked into the goal at the rainy Stadium of Light.
Goalkeeper Tim Howard is the only player on the U.S. men’s team to score from a distance in the Premier League, according to statistics firm Opta. It was against Bolton in 2012, when Howard’s clearance from Everton’s own area bounced and went into the net.
The goal extended Bournemouth’s lead to 2-0 at the time and was Adams’ second goal in his last four games, having previously scored against Manchester City on 2 November.
Adams, who captained the United States at the 2022 World Cup, did not score at Bournemouth, where he joined in August 2023, or in another season in the Premier League, at Leeds in 2022-23.
