Former Chelsea midfielder Oscar is in stable condition due to heart disease

SAO PAULO (AP) – Former Chelsea midfielder Oscar is in stable condition after suffering from a heart condition, his club Sao Paulo have announced.

According to Brazilian media, Oscar was testing an exercise bike when he collapsed and lost consciousness for about two minutes.

The 34-year-old man was then taken to hospital by ambulance.

São Paulo said in a statement: “During tests carried out on SuperCT on Tuesday morning as part of pre-season preparations, player Oscar showed complications involving heart changes and was immediately treated by the club’s specialists who were present at the scene and by the medical team of the Israel Einstein Hospital.”

“The player was then taken to hospital, where he is clinically stable and remains under observation for further tests to clarify the diagnosis.”

Oscar has a contract with Sao Paulo until 2027. he returned to his boyhood club After a long stay in China, he joined the team on a free transfer in December of last year.

Oscar joined Chelsea in 2012, winning one Europa League title and two Premier League titles.

He moved to Shanghai midway through Chelsea’s 2016-17 season for a reported fee of $73 million. He won three Super League titles in China and became a fan favorite in Asia as well.

Oscar represented Brazil at the 2014 World Cup, scoring the only goal in a 7-1 loss to Germany in the semi-finals, which led to Germany winning the championship.
