MADRID (AP) – Atletico Madrid defender Robin Le Normand has been diagnosed with a knee injury and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.
Atlético said tests on Wednesday revealed that Le Normand suffered a serious injury, but did not suffer damage to his ligaments or meniscus.
The club has not disclosed how long the player will be out. The newspaper said the central defender has already started physical therapy and rehabilitation and “his progress will determine his return to competition”.
Le Normand was substituted midway through the first half of Atlético’s 3-1 Champions League win over Union Saint Giroise on Tuesday.
Less than 25 minutes into the match at the Metropolitano Stadium, he collided with Union midfielder Adem Zorgane.
Le Normand’s left foot hit Zolgane’s waist before he fell, and he immediately felt the pain and grabbed Zolgane. He received treatment on the field but was unable to continue.
