BERLIN (AP) – Said El Mara scored in stoppage time to give Cologne a 4-1 victory over nine-a-side Hamburger SV in a meeting of promoted Bundesliga teams on Sunday.
Hamburg were trailing by one goal in the 79th minute when Immanuel Ferai was sent off and Fabio Vieira was sent off four minutes into the game. They almost leveled the score, but in the fourth minute of stoppage time, El Mara sealed the victory with a cross from Jakub Kaminski.
It was 19-year-old El Mara’s fourth Bundesliga goal of the season. He then returned the favor to Kaminski, completing the scoring for the second-division champions.
Cologne forward Ragnar Ace scored the first goal in the 24th minute when Hamburg’s Alberto Sambi Lokonga suffered a careless slip when receiving the ball from goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes. Florian Kainz pounced on the ball and had his shot blocked, but Ace got the rebound after Linton Maina blocked it on the line.
Kainz scored with a free kick in the 48th minute, but Hamburg’s celebrations were cut short by Vieira’s reaction two minutes later.
The goal was canceled after a lengthy VAR check for a foul in the build-up, but in the 61st minute, Youssuf Poulsen scored at the far post from Jean-Luc Dompe’s cross to make it 2-1.
Hamburg’s hopes suffered a major blow when Ferai was sent off with a second yellow card for carelessly colliding with Christopher Lund, and Vieira was sent off with a second yellow card for speaking to the referee.
Struggling Wolfsburg then hosted Hoffenheim.
