GENOA, Italy (AP) — Patrick Vieira’s tenure as Genoa manager ended on Saturday with the club in last place and winless after nine matches. Serie A season.
Genoa only announced that Vieira “is no longer the first-team coach,” but La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper reported that Vieira had resigned.
Roberto Murguita and Domenico Criscito have been appointed as joint interim managers for Monday’s game against Sassuolo.
Vieira, who won a World Cup with France, was hired a year ago to replace Alberto Gilardino, who was sacked by Genoa, one place above the relegation zone. He led Genoa to 13th place last season and has extended his contract for another two years.
However, Genoa have lost six of their nine games this season, losing 2-0 at home to promoted side Cremona last weekend.
This is the second managerial change in Serie A this week. Luciano Spalletti replaces fired Igor Tudor at Juventus.
