MADRID (AP) – Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has undergone arthroscopic surgery and is expected to be out for several months.
Madrid announced on Tuesday that surgery on his right knee had been successful.
The club has not released an official timeline for Carvajal’s recovery, but he is expected to be out for two to three months.
Carvajal came on as a substitute for Federico Valverde in the 72nd minute. 2-1 victory over Barcelona Sunday’s La Liga Clasico. Carvajal played until the end, but complained of knee pain after the match.
It was only the veteran right-back’s eighth appearance of the season. Carvajal, 33, also missed out with a muscular injury. He was sidelined for about nine months in 2024 with a knee injury.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to return to the starting lineup at right-back after recovering from a hamstring injury.
Madrid’s next match is at home against Valencia on Saturday.
