GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) – Celtic center back Cameron Carter-Vickers will be sidelined for at least several months with an Achilles tendon injury, manager Brendan Rodgers announced Friday.
Rodgers predicted Carter-Vickers would be sidelined for three to five months, which could limit the defender’s chances of being selected for next summer’s World Cup squad.
Carter-Vickers, 27, felt pain during Celtic’s 2-1 win over Sturm Graz in europe league on Thursday night.
Rodgers was substituted twice in the first half due to injury and made a further substitution in the 78th minute, but he exhausted his three substitute opportunities.
Coach Rodgers said after the game, “We wanted to take Cameron out, but we could only make one substitution in the second half. Ideally, we would have taken him out.”
Rodgers told Sky Sports on Friday that it was an Achilles tendon injury.
Fellow U.S. international Auston Trusty could be called up to replace Carter-Vickers, who played for the U.S. at the 2022 World Cup.
